Complete Slide vs. Stripped Slide: Which Is Right for Your Glock Build?

If you’re upgrading your Glock, you’ll quickly run into a fundamental choice: complete slide assembly or stripped slide. Both are legitimate paths, but they suit different builds, different budgets, and different skill levels.

What Is a Complete Slide Assembly?

A complete slide assembly arrives ready to drop onto your Glock frame. It includes the slide body, barrel, recoil spring assembly, and all internal components (extractor, firing pin, firing pin safety), often with sights and an optic cover plate already installed. You field-strip your Glock, remove the factory slide, slide the new assembly onto the frame rails, and you’re done.

No sourcing individual parts. No assembly required.

What Is a Stripped Slide?

A stripped slide is the machined slide body only,no barrel, no internals, no sights. It’s the canvas for a custom build. You choose your own barrel (match-grade, ported, threaded, your call), recoil spring assembly, and internal components. The optic cut is precision-milled into the slide, and you mount your optic directly.

More work, more decisions, but complete control over every component.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose a Complete Slide If:

  • You want a turnkey upgrade without sourcing or assembling individual parts.
  • You’re upgrading your Glock for the first time and want a matched, tested system.
  • You want the slide, barrel, and internals from a single manufacturer.
  • You want to be done in 10 minutes.

Choose a Stripped Slide If:

  • You already own quality internals you want to carry forward.
  • You want a specific aftermarket barrel: ported, threaded, or a particular length.
  • You’re building from a stripped frame and speccing every component yourself.
  • You’ve done this before and know what you’re doing.

Cost Comparison

A complete slide typically costs more upfront, but that price includes the barrel, recoil spring assembly, internals, and sights. When you add up those parts individually for a stripped build, the complete slide often ends up being the better value. The stripped slide wins on price when you’re reusing quality parts you already own.
