RMR vs. RMSC: Which Optic Cut Do You Need for Your Glock Slide?

One of the most common mistakes Glock owners make when buying an optic-cut slide is ordering the wrong footprint. The RMR and RMSC are two different mounting standards, and they are not interchangeable.

The RMR Footprint (Full-Size and Compact Glocks)

The RMR (Ruggedized Miniature Reflex) footprint is the standard optic cut for duty-size and compact Glock platforms. Developed by Trijicon, it’s become the industry default for full-size pistols and is supported by more optic options than any other footprint.

Compatible Optics (RMR Cut):

• Trijicon RMR, SRO, RCR
• Holosun 407C, 507C, 508T
• Swampfox Liberty II

Glock Models That Use the RMR Cut:

Glock 17 Gen 1-3  •  Glock 19 Gen 1-3  •  Glock 26 Gen 1-3

The RMSC / 407K Footprint (Subcompact / Slim-Frame Glocks)

The RMSC (Ruggedized Miniature Sight Carry) footprint is a smaller mounting cut designed specifically for slim-frame, subcompact pistols. It positions the optic lower and closer to the bore axis, critical for concealed carry where a low profile matters.

Compatible Optics (RMSC / 407K Cut):

• Holosun 407K, 507K, EPS Carry
• Shield RMSc

Glock Models That Use the RMSC / 407K Cut:

Glock 43 / Glock 43X

All Desert Cat slides for the G43/43X use the RMSC/407K footprint, factory-milled directly into the slide.

Why This Matters: They Are Not Interchangeable

An RMR-footprint optic will NOT mount on an RMSC-cut slide without an adapter plate, which raises the optic higher off the slide and defeats the purpose of a milled cut. Conversely, RMSC optics cannot be mounted on an RMR-cut slide without an adapter.
